A New Company is Building a Smarter AI for Money Decisions
Here’s a surprising fact: More than half of all investors (54%) are now using tools like ChatGPT to help them make decisions about buying and selling in financial markets. However, very few people (only 11%) actually trust the advice they get. This means a lot of money is being invested based on unreliable information.
A new company called TrueNorth just received $3 million in startup funding to fix this problem. They are building a special kind of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that is designed specifically for finance.
The funding was led by a company called CyberFund, with help from other investors like Delphi Labs, SNZ, GSR, and Ocular. This money will help TrueNorth create an AI that can think logically about money and won’t make up false information.
Why Normal AI Isn’t Good for Trading
Willy Chuang, one of the founders of TrueNorth, says that every field needs its own special AI. For example, lawyers have an AI called Harvey, and doctors have one called OpenEvidence. But for finance, where mistakes can cost a lot of money, people are still using general AI that learns from all over the internet, including social media sites like Reddit.
The team at TrueNorth, who have worked at big companies like Meta and Goldman Sachs, knows that general AI has problems. It can make up facts, which is sometimes called “hallucinating.” It doesn’t understand the complex and fast-changing world of financial markets.
“Markets move too fast, the details are too important, and mistakes are too expensive,” says Chuang. “An AI that’s an expert in finance isn’t just a nice idea; it’s necessary. We’re the first to build it.”
TrueNorth’s Solution: An AI That’s a Finance Expert
TrueNorth believes an AI for finance must be a specialist. It needs to have the most current information and be able to think like an expert trader. Their platform works by turning the knowledge and strategies of top traders into AI agents. It uses special guides, real-time information, and its own unique AI models that are trained only on financial logic.
And it seems to be working! In tests, TrueNorth’s AI was 98% accurate on financial tasks, which is 28% better than the best general AI. It was also much faster, reducing delays by 80%. Early users also love it—about twice as many people kept using it after 30 days compared to other apps.
